Know About Wisdom Teeth and Necessity of their Removal

It is known that all of the teeth except the wisdom teeth appear at an earlier age. However, wisdom teeth which are the third molars appear between the ages of 17 and 25. However, they may also appear a bit earlier or later. They may not even appear in some people. Much pain is associated in the process of their outcome. All the wisdom teeth are not removed. There is actually no need to remove wisdom teeth if they are healthy and fully erupted. Proper positioning and the ability to clean them easily also avoids the necessity of their removal. However, due to some reasons, it has become essential to remove them.
  • As the wisdom teeth arise partially from the gums, there are increased chances of bacterial infections. Food debris and other matter may get deposited around the gums. The bacterial infection developed from the trapped food, bacteria and plaque is termed as pericoronitis.
  • There may be a change in way that a person bites the teeth together. This may also result in misalignment of the jaws.
  • The teeth which are not erupted are expected to grow crooked. This may damage the other surrounding teeth. A fluid-filled sac may be developed around the unerupted wisdom teeth damaging the surrounding bone or tissue. There is a possibility that some cysts which are formed around an impacted wisdom tooth grow into tumors. However, this condition is very rare.
  • Wisdom teeth erupt in an abnormal position such as tilted, twisted, or sideways.
It is good to consult a dentist when you suffer from the pain because of these wisdom teeth. The dentists uses appropriate surgical instruments to remove them by using specific methods of sedation.
